Textured finish is easier. Just scuff, then plastic primer, base and clear. No sanding, lest you destroy the texture. Most important thing is to make sure the plastic is clean and ready to take paint. One big choice when it comes to any set of fender flares is whether to paint them or leave them in bare black form. No, fender flares generally do not prevent rust from appearing in those areas; ironically enough, they can actually cause rust instead, let me explain why. Normally flares are only held by bolts on the bottom, and a piece of gasket on top.
Mud flaps easily install with screws onto the Fender Flares. You can get mud flaps molded that will work with fender flares. I wanted to get flaps after I installed my Prestieg flares. I located them online but never ordered. I had Huskey OE style flaps on before I got the flares, but had to take them off. To prep a Flat Style Flare, be sure to scuff lightly and follow a standard paint system format as listed above. For best results sand the texture out and use a filler primer and block smooth, this system is much more technical and should not be preformed by an amateur.
Do not use a paint stripper, it will ruin the flare. Additionally, it would soak into the plastic and cause the next coat of paint to peel off. Best thing to do is just leave the paint on the flare.
Go over it with a light sanding, prime and repaint. It may not display this or other websites correctly. You should upgrade or use an alternative browser. Thread starter Jordanjswc77 Start date Oct 1, Status Not open for further replies.

Is there anyone here who would sell their black painted fenders? Chris Administrator Staff Member. Why not just have yours painted?
